Inspector Training for the Quality Programme in Turkey

Sanliurfa - More than 15 quality inspectors from Sanliurfa - including staff from the Metropolitan Municipality, the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism - participated in a two-day workshop on quality in tourism to learn how to apply the tourism quality programme, its criteria and the inspection process.

The Province of Sanliurfa is committed to improving the quality of the tourist services provided by local tourism companies through the introduction of a quality programme. The programme aims to support tourism companies in their quality efforts and to meet the needs and interests of travellers for a good service.

The EU project "Revitalization of the History of Sanliurfa", implemented by the company Project Group International, initiated a pilot project that should reach over 50 hotels, guesthouses and restaurants throughout the province. The main focus of the work was on the quality of tourist services and the physical standards of the facilities and their equipment, as well as hygiene standards.

In cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality and the Karadag Development Agency, the EU project organised a two-day workshop for inspectors from 8 to 9 August 2018 to assess the quality of tourist services in the establishments. The aim of the training was to train a group of inspectors who will then evaluate the tourism enterprises with the help of a developed checklist in order to ensure a good tourism standard in Sanliurfa.

At the event Kai Partale said: "The quality assessment of private sector enterprises is a very important step for a long-term and successful development of tourism in Sanliurfa. The developed quality programme shows that the private sector has gained confidence in the implementation of quality audits and that it is beneficial if the quality standards are maintained for a better and more profitable tourism in the region".
