Sustainable Tourism Practices and Development Potential in the Mekong Delta

As part of a mission of the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Programme, a workshop was held in the Mekong Delta to introduce sustainable tourism practices, criteria and indices in Can Tho.

The aim was to provide information on the needs of international and domestic tourists in the recovery phase after COVID-19 and to present green and sustainable development trends that are an important factor in competing and attracting tourists.

Kai Partale presented changes in tourism demand and trends in sustainable development, followed by the presentation and discussion of opportunities and challenges in applying sustainable tourism criteria and indices in Can Tho.

Participants included the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, the Can Tho Tourism Association and representatives of tourism enterprises.

The field mission continued with a visit to Mang Thit, Vinh Long, which was one of several activities of the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Programme to support Vinh Long Province in its tourism development plans.

The team of experts assessed the situation on the ground and presented the tourism development potential assessment for the Mang Thit Cultural Heritage Development Project, which was highly welcomed by the officials of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Vinh Long.
